Tips on Budgeting – Define Financial Goals
Have you achieved your financial goals yet? Do you even know what your financial goals are? A big part of successful financial planning actually begins with where you are first. Think about it, if you wanted to get to Florida and you wanted to use MapQuest.com what is the first thing you would need to enter? That’s right, you would need to enter where you currently are. So many people stumble at this point. They begin at the end. It sounds so simple, but becoming successful financially begins with defining your financial goals. Here are 3 quick tips on budgeting to help your define your financial goals:
Why did I buy this? If you find yourself reading another financial book or going through a video series, stop and ask yourself why you bought the program in the first place. Do you want to increase your income? Do you have specific debts you would like to clear? Do you just want to be able to create an emergency account? The answer to this could be surprising to you.
What did you dream about? When you were a kid what did you dream about? Kids have the ability to dream without talking themselves out of it. Somewhere along the line we as adults listen to our inner voice more than our dreams. Go back to being a kid. Find out some of the greatest desires you had as a kid and see if you can fit a financial goal around this dream.
What do you want? It sounds so simple but defining what you want first is a major key to obtaining it. They say that if you ask a question enough to your subconscious you will eventually get an answer. So ask it. “What do I want.” Then listen for the answer. It sounds so simple but you may be surprised what you get by following tips on budgeting.
If you want to become successful financially then defining your goals first is a must. Don’t be like most people and start at the end. You need to first figure out what it is that you want. Only then will you be able to say that you have laid a solid foundation for success with finances. For more information on tips on budgeting read more of our posts.

The concept of “saving money” is easier said than done for most people. I understand that it is ‘easy and logical’ for some people, but I also understand it can be a difficult habit to break for others.
If you’re looking to save money or change your lifestyle, my advice is to take it in “baby-steps” because it won’t happen overnight. Here are some tips that helped me out.
1. Always pay more than the minimum on any credit card payments – if you don’t believe me you can calculate it for yourself
2. Use coupons when grocery shopping
3. Try online shopping – it’s saves on gas & they have bigger markdowns
4. Read a book – it’s cheaper than going to a movie
5. Know your budget!
Good luck and happy savings!

It also helps to set out your weekly budget in cash and just use that cash. Trust me, you will never go over your budget this way.
