25 Tips on Budgeting to Save $10 a Month
The Dog Days of Summer are winding down and if you are like a lot of people, this summer has really eaten into your budget. Do you need a break? Do you need to trim the fat and start saving more money? Let’s say you were to save only $10 a month. In 30 years you could have more than $14,000. Try following these tips on budgeting. They will all help and you may end up saving a lot more than $10 a month!
- Give up buying coffee – Make it at home
- Don’t eat out/Limit how often you eat out
- Buy Grocery’s in bulk
- Clip Coupons
- Fill up car with gas mid week
- Don’t speed when driving
- Open a high rate savings account with $1,000 for ‘Emergency Fund’
- Limit alcohol consumption/Quit smoking
- Lower heating when you are at work or at night to 15 degrees
- Recycle (many places require bag tags for garbage and you can recycle containers to store food)
- Change your diet – Don’t buy junk food
- Pay off your credit cards
- Shop for clothes in thrift stores
- Turn off your lights when not in a room
- Look online for free coupons on products
- Bring Lunch to work the most common of the tips on budgeting
- Car pool whenever possible
- Turn off your computer when you aren’t using it
- Consider games night instead of going out to movies with family
- Get rid of old refrigerators/appliances etc
- Unplug chargers for cell phones/digital cameras etc when they’re not in use
- Only use dishwasher for full loads. Half loads add up and become very expensive or hand wash dishes
- Limit long distance calling to evenings and weekends
- Cancel magazine/newspaper subscriptions – do reading online.
- Renegotiate cell phone/cable/internet/mortgage/insurance plans etc. Company’s want your business. Make them fight for it!

Based on your list, someone could save hundreds of dollars a month, not just ten. Quitting smoking alone could save more than a hundred.
Bringing your lunch is not only cheaper, it is also much healthier depending what you bring.
The only thing on your list that I am guilty of is buying coffee. I buy a cup of coffee each day.
I could certainly do with cutting out the junk food. Why fill up gas mid week? I’ve not really looked into it nor noticed but is it cheaper than the weekend?

Great tips, clip coupons and buying food when it is on sale is one of the best! Bringing lunch everyday is hard though so how about finding a cheaper alternative to eat out?
If I really needed to tighten my budget, I could give up my Starbucks and make it at home for half the price. I would then save about $40 a month. But, I really like the experience of going to Starbucks. Maybe I could do this for one month….;)
