The Benefits of a Virtual Office

How Going Virtual Can Save Your Small Business Money

Posted by Money Tips Staff

telecommutingSmall businesses often struggle initially to convey an air of professionalism. Because they are the little guy, they want to look as though they can compete with larger companies and generally compensate with nicer office spaces. However, having a traditional office space for a small business is not only usually unnecessary, it can be downright detrimental to growth and expansion.

For small business owners who predominately deal with online sales, a better choice to optimize business dollars may be choosing to move your traditional office into a virtual office. Virtual office spaces allow business owners and their employees to work from the cloud to still effectively produce without having to worry about any of the issues normally associated with traditional office spaces. However, they also provide business owners with a physical office address so that you don’t have bondsman coming after you for business fraud.

Benefits to moving your office into the virtual realm that could save your business thousands include:

Saving on Rent

Rent is an incredible expense for most businesses – especially for smaller businesses or those just starting out. When you choose a virtual office over a traditional space, you are saving yourself hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each month.

No Utilities

For most office spaces, utilities are not included – which is just another expense. To make sure that you are able to put as much money as possible towards expansion, don’t pay for an office space. Not only will you save on rent, but the only utilities you will have to pay will be those that you already pay for your house or apartment.

Fewer Sick Days

Sick days can put a large strain on a small businesses budget. Not only does the business usually have to pay for that sick day, but they also lose out on the productivity of that employee out sick. With a virtual office your employees can work from anywhere whether that be at a local coffee shop or at home with a possibly contagious cold.

More Productive Employees

Employees that work with more flexible schedules, such as those provided by telecommuting, as happier employees and happier employees are more productive employees. More productive employees will not only make your business more efficient, but it will increase your profit margin as well.

Don’t waste money on a fancy looking business, when you could be more effectively growing it by going virtual. Being a small business is often a struggle, but if you take the right financial precautions, you can stretch your dollar to better your chances at longevity and success.

The Cost of Having Children

Can You Afford to Have Kids?

Posted by Money Tips Staff

cost of kidsWhether or not you are currently pregnant or planning on having a baby at some point, it’s best to be absolutely sure that you can afford to have kids. The cost of raising even one child, let alone a growing family of kids, is astronomical and can truly change your life if you don’t prepare. The best way to determine if you can really afford to have kids is to sit down and make a list of the basic necessities you will have to provide along with current prices. From diapers to teething rings and everything in between, your infant will need new comforts as he or she grows older. Your list should include the obvious items like clothing, baby food, formula and bottles, as well as incidental circumstances like medical visits and road trips to visit the grandparents. The truth is that most of us want to become parents eventually but not everyone can afford to have kids, so you should make sure that your finances are in order before bringing a new life into the world.

From the moment you become pregnant the costs of having a child begin to add up. Ultrasound appointments with your doctor, finding new clothes to match your growing belly and even taking maternity leave from work are all expenses that you will incur before your child is even born. Childproofing your home and making it safe for the baby’s arrival is another process that can quickly become costly depending on the size and scope of the project. You will also need to buy bulk quantities of the basics like baby formula and bottles, diapers and wipes, cans of Gerber’s baby food, and even if you can secure discounts at Wal-Mart or other retailers these initial reserves will quickly be used up. Furnishing a new nursery or baby room is yet another lengthy and expensive aspect of having kids. A quality crib can easily run between $400 and $500 alone, and when things like bedding, pillows, blankets and other comforts are factored in the cost of putting a nursery together can drown an unsuspecting new parent. New mothers must also cope with adjustments to their own lives which can affect their bottom line. If you are battling bouts of morning sickness, for example, and begin missing days of work, your paychecks will be shorter and your job security may be compromised.

As your baby grows older and becomes a young child, they will need other things like school supplies, bicycles, video games and other toys. Entering your kid in Little League or ballet, encouraging them to take piano lessons and nurturing their emerging talents are all milestones of parenting that will undoubtedly leave you swelling with a sense of pride. On the other hand, if you can’t afford to take care of your child to this degree, providing them with the tools and resources they need to thrive, then having kids at this point in your life is simply not fair to anybody.
