In my last post I discussed 4 simple ways how to manage money and eliminate debt step by step. Each step suggested ways you can help eliminate your debt all together. Those first 4 steps were to:
Access your current financial situation – Know how much money you are spending and saving each month.
Analyze your spending habits – Go through your purchases and discover the ‘mistakes’ you tend to make when you spend your money.
Budget – If you want to have financial goals you need to plan them first.
Eliminate those ‘Red Flagged’ purchases – Limit or prevent any unnecessary purchases. If you don’t need something don’t buy it plain and simple.

Are you among those who enjoy costume parties? Seems like a lot of us do. Not only are they a staple at Halloween-time, but you’ll find various theme dress parties throughout the year.
Ever wonder why that is? I think that I have an idea (not that it’s terribly unique). For a few hours we get to be someone that we’d like to be, but are not in real life. You can be that swashbuckling pirate or the beautiful movie starlett. I get to be the daring race car driver!
It’s a lot of fun. It’s an accepted way for adults to play let’s pretend without being embarrassed.

Part One of Two
Is there a way to manage my money and eliminate debt step by step? Well if there were a sure fire way we would all be doing it every day, week and month of the year. However, I have discovered a number of steps that can only help and if you attempt to follow each as closely as possible you will be one step closer to eliminating your personal debt. You can start tomorrow and it can change your life.
The First Step: Assess your current financial situation.

Do you think that it’s virtuous to be poor? Many people do. In many religious traditions holiness is in part accomplished by turning your back on material things.The idea is that to appreciate the spiritual you need to totally forsake the material. Or at least get as close as possible. Many have taken vows of poverty to pursue this goal.

Relationships in some regards are a lot like your own personal finances. Personal relationships take a great deal of work, planning, communication, understanding, goal setting, deposits and withdrawals. Personal finances require the exact same amount of work, planning, understanding, goal setting, deposits and withdrawals. The sooner you start the better things will be. That’s why financial planning today for tomorrow is so important. It is well understood that saving for your retirement in your twenties is so important but not everyone fits that ideal. I have a couple of friends who put off going to school and didn’t graduate until there 30’s – perhaps you are like that. One thing is for sure, start saving now and start making that plan. The longer you delay the harder things will become to retire.
