 I don’t think I’m alone when I say that college was a great experience. It was a period of time that gave me a ‘ticket’ for a rewarding and successful future. I was pretty good about budgeting myself during those three years by trying to limit myself from joining my classmates at the pub on those random Tuesday afternoon’s. I learned things about myself that I didn’t know and met great people along the way. Those were people with whom I shared similar interests and goals and we also shared a common bond – we managed to accumulate some college debt.

In his book Automatic Wealth, business guru and investor Michael Masterson lays out a plan for how to achieve financial independence within 7 to 15 years. Though some his principals are oversimplified and general, he does do a good job of laying out what you should do to build wealth quickly.

The three main points in the book are as follows:

           Buying your first home is always a big decision to make in life. There are many different designs and features to pick from, not to mention size and location. Do you want a condo, a town home, big lot, small lot or no lot? My wife and I just moved into our house last week. It’s a modest 2400 square foot duplex. Our decision to buy this property was based on cash flow, how I manage my money and our long-term wealth building strategy, not emotion.
